While working with Bury Inc. as a Land Development Engineer, Streetlights Residential has become one of my favorite clients. I love their projects. My personal favorite is The Taylor in Uptown. I was asked by Bury Inc. to go and photograph the project for their marketing department. Architecture photography is a changeling field to be in. There are so many factors that go into creating a stunning architectural photo.

One of the most challenging aspects to architecturally photography is timing. Pick the time of day and weather conditions for a shot is crucial. Some of my architectural projects have taken weeks to months to complete due to lightening and weather. From seasonal lighting changes to months of overcast, you never know what will happen.

A key aspect of my work is the preliminary site visit. I can visit a building two or three times before I even breakout my camera. During these site visits, I will take notes on how the angle of the sun reflects off the building, what time of day is the best light is produced, which shoots I would like to capture. Site visits also allow me to take a look at key features that can make my photography that much better. For example, I recently did a site visit at for a apartment building in Fort Worth TX. The buildings interior is being finished out and they will start to install landscaping. I am going to recommend to my client that we wait until six months after they have installed the landscaping to photography the building. Why? Well the landscaping needs at least six months to grow. All of these little details are needed to create great architecture photography.

The interior shot above was one of the most difficult in during the shoot. I took about 5 shots at different exposures to create one image. I also used a remote flash to the right to create some fill light for the chairs and table. I spent almost 30 minutes moving my light stand and tripod to get the perfect angle and flash to fill the space with light. It was especially helpful using my CamRanger to see how my shot would line up and where to place my flash.

Over the next six months, I will be posting more of the work I have performed for Bury Inc. They have many exciting projects around DFW and I hope to show more of their work including the Winspear Opera House, Trinity Groves, and One Main Place.
