Field Report: Fair Park TX

Who: Erin Evans and Michael D. Klein

What: Fashion shoot

When: May 10th 2015

Where: Fair Park, Dallas TX

Why: Why not?

Fair Park is a mecca for art deco architecture in Dallas. Now approaching 130 years old, Fair Park is an amazing and forgotten place. While established in 1886, the majority of the buildings were constructed in 1936 as part of the centennial celebration of the Republic of Texas. The main building of this expansion was the Hall of State.

Built in 1936, the Hall of State had an astronomical price tag of 1.2 million dollars. At the time, it was the most expensive building per square foot ever built in Texas. One of the main center pieces of the building is the “Tejas Warrior”. This 11 foot tall sculpture is coated in gold leaf and is above the main entrance of the building. The building also includes the names of Texas heroes like Stephen F. Austin, Davy Crockett, and Sam Houston.

Fair Park is the perfect place of portrait and fashion shoots. Not only does the park have amazing architecture to add to your shoot, there is easy access to the park. Fair Park is open almost every day to visitors. There is very easy access to the Hall of State and the rest of the centennial addition of the park. During my shoot with Erin, we park right in front of the Hall of State. Also, during late april and early may, the sunset is perfectly aligned with the Hall of State during the golden hour.

Would I recommend this location to other photographers?

Yes! It's a perfect location for fashion and portrait shoots.
