Bridges are a simple concept. They take people, goods and ideas across physical boundaries like rivers, lake, and canyons. The ancient greeks used then to cross small streams and the invention of steel and reinforced concrete bridges connected whole continents. The continental ave bridge is no different. Dallas is known for it’s viaduct bridges. The Continental Ave, Houston Ave, and Corinth Ave viaducts are all extremely unique structures that have connected west Dallas and downtown for over a century. They all serve as the representation of the connection of the rise and decline of west Dallas and downtown Dallas. The transfer of people and ideas over the Trinity River. The revitalization of the Continental Ave Bridge is the perfect representation of Dallas’ effort over the past decade to revitalize all communities and neighborhoods along the Trinity River.
In 2010, the City of Dallas decided to repair the Continental Ave. bridge after it became a safety hazard. In the process, the city decided to modify the bridge for pedestrian traffic due to the presence of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. They have now created one of the most unique areas of the Trinity river corridor. The pedestrian bridge features a fun and unique playground for children, and great areas for families to enjoy the trinity. The best part about the bridge is the views of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. From just about anywhere along the bridge, you get an great view of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.
So would I recommend shooting here? It’s 50/50. Maybe during the right time of year, it would be interesting to shoot on the bridge. You would have to be going to a very specific type of shoot. For street photography, children portrait, or architecture photography, I would recommend shooting from the bridge, otherwise, I would go else where. Otherwise, it’s a beautiful location and quite fun.
